Day 2: Part 2 - A Quiet Saturday Settling In

It is evening, Amelia is down, snuggling with Nama (my mother) who came up to visit for the weekend, and the pump is running.  All-in-all, it was a good day.  Amelia got up this morning and was bright and chipper, much more full of energy than she has been for a few weeks at least.  The tired, listless look she had from previous days was gone.  She still isn't at 100%, but the improvement was so noticeable it was a wonderful thing.

Amelia and I spent the morning in the arts and crafts room.  Amelia made a popup card for Nama, and I started a project for Amelia.  I am making her popup card Valentines to send to her classmates for Valentine's Day so she gets to participate.  making 14 or so hand crafted cards, and then she will get to sign them, maybe put a little message in them, and we will make sure the get delivered to her teacher before the big day.

Then, when Nama showed up, there was cookie decorating in the main common room.  Amelia handled this really well, considering she couldn't EAT any of the cookies...  She frosted and decorated a few of them with Nama, me, and mommy.  After that, we walked a few blocks to a park she has been so excited to go check out.  The park was at least 3 blocks walk away and Amelia did that with no problem.  Then, while mommy and I went a couple blocks further to New Seasons to grab some drinks and some lunch, Amelia and Nama went to the playground.

When we got back from New Seasons, Amelia was playing and making friends on the playground, NG Tube and all.  I know she knows it is still there, but her actions are getting much more natural and she is noticing it less and less.  I can hardly wait for when she starts making little paper ornaments for it, or a paper head for the end of it.

We got her to bed a little later than we wanted, and there was a little bit of a struggle about her taking her medication tonight (I don't blame her... It tastes nasty and she has to swish and swallow some water with it to make sure she gets all of the dissolved medicine).

Today was a GOOD day.  We just got to work on settling in here, getting Amelia more comfortable with the place and people (we also did a scavenger hunt.  Each of the 4 halls on 2 floors were painted with floor to ceiling murals, and there are pictorial scavenger hunt booklets near the front desk).  We got to just relax, not have to go anywhere, and just have a good time.  It was a small blessing, and a lovely, peaceful day.  Here is to hoping for more days like this in the weeks to come...

PS - Amelia is quietly asleep, having her feeding...  I sometimes envy the thought...
